Trailblazing for an Education Department
In 2019, Matie led an internal design project for a top beauty retailer's education department, transforming the Learning Management System (LMS) with a fresh, modern design that delivered personalization and effectiveness for over 17,000 employees.
Matie played a dynamic role in spearheading the logo design, branding, and UX/UI design implementation for a complex LMS migration from Cornerstone to BigTinCan. This ensured a smooth transition while boosting usability and engagement.
An Overwhelmed Audience
The previous design presented numerous obstacles.

Overloaded Interface: A cluttered design with excessive options left employees feeling lost and overwhelmed.
Low Personalization: Training modules lacked tailored recommendations, making it difficult for users to prioritize content.
Time Constraints: Employees struggled to complete training during their shifts, with many abandoning the experience altogether.
These issues resulted in training completion rates at just 17%.
User Testing & Feedback
Matie got approval from her team to visit store fronts to interview power users and gather user feedback on the old LMS. To ensure the redesign met user needs, Matie led:
Focus Groups: Gathering input from 20+ employees across different roles and locations.
User Testing: An interactive online survey sent to targeted users.
Feedback Survey: A link embedded on the LMS that prompted for 1K+ feedbacks.

Key insights from the user research efforts started to emerge. Data revealed a need for simplicity and efficiency, particularly for employees who had limited time. The new LMS needed:
Relevant training for each employee.
Personalized dashboards based on user roles, such as Beauty Advisors, Store Directors, or Regional Managers.
Modern Aesthetic that has clean lines, vibrant imagery, and dynamic elements.

Rethinking the Content Strategy
The migration offered an opportunity to rethink the user experience. This transition required:
Better Content Organization: Mapping training modules with new UX.
Enhanced Features: Leverage AI-driven recommendations and mobile-friendly designs.
Seamless Transition: Ensuring no data or functionality was lost during the migration.

From Overwhelmed to Empowered

The redesigned homepage and migration to BigTinCan LMS delivered transformative results:
Completion Rates Soared: Training completion rates increased from 17% to 75%, thanks to personalized recommendations and a streamlined design.
Reduced Training Time: Employees could now complete daily modules in just 10 minutes, compared to 20+ minutes previously.
Higher Engagement: User satisfaction surveys reported a 92% approval rate for the new interface.
